UCO renewed a football rivalry this past Saturday against the Langston Lions demolishing them in the first game these two programs have played since 1999 with a 72-0 win for the Bronchos.

9,000+ attendees were all in for the first game of the 2024 season at Chad Richison Stadium and they were not let down. Kobey Stephens started the contest with a 98-yard kickoff return to start the game to put the Bronchos up 7-0 before fans could even get to their seats.

UCO’s rushing offense was the story of the night with both Jaylen Cottrell and Quincy Thompson both going for 100+ rushing yards, and a TD a piece. The ball was also spread around on the passing game with nine different receivers getting a reception in this game. The leading receiver, Jacob Delso, had four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.

The Bronchos saw split time at quarter back in this game with returning player Dawson Herl and new transfer Jett Huff. Both quarter backs had great tempo and feel for the game with Huff throwing for 192 yards and four touchdowns on 75% completions. Herl, who only had 27 yards of passing, showed off his legs with nearly 50 yards of rushing and showed why he can be the scrambler the team needs if desired.

UCO defense looked unscorable with the shutout only allowing 300 yards of total offense including 3 interceptions and a forced fumble. The defense also had 6 tackles for loss and 2 sacks just adding to this unreal defensive showing by the Bronchos.

UCO had a few records broken in this game that haven’t been seen in years including having two rushers rush for over 100 yards each, something that hasn’t happened since 2019. The first time since 2013 a punt was returned for a touchdown and first time since 2012 a kickoff was returned for a touchdown.

Bronchos lead the series history between Langston 33-5-1. Now it is time for the Bronchos to get right back to action with the number 2 team in the country Central Missouri coming to town next Saturday at 7 p.m. with what should be a massive game in the early season of the Bronchos hope of a great season.
