Terrifier 3 Movie Review
“Terrifier 3” is the third installment in the gruesome “Terrifier” franchise that started in 2016 and proves to be another successful film in the series.
“Terrifier 3” continues the storyline from “Terrifier 2,” following survivors Sienna and Jonathan Shaw. It takes place five years after its predecessor. However, there are scenes that take place directly after the events of the second movie.
This movie stands out from the rest of the franchise because it takes place during Christmas. The opening scene is definitely one of the strongest horror openings. It was a classic horrific slasher bloodbath, but this time with a Christmas twist.
This movie also stands out from the rest of the franchise because the video quality and practical effects were much better. While the film may not have been as gory and graphic as “Terrifier 2,” the improved practical effects made up for it.
Art the clown was also the funniest he has been. He had so much personality that he had the audience laughing throughout a lot of the film.
One downside from “Terrifier 2” that was fixed with the third installment was long and drawn out scenes. They were the perfect length in this installment.
Nothing in this movie could top the bedroom scene in “Terrifier 2.” It will be hard to top that. However, the practical effects were so much better that the scenes had much more impact.
This movie also delves into the lore from “The 9th Circle,” the short film also directed by Damien Leone where Art the Clown made his debut. “The 9th Circle” follows a woman who gets taken by Art the Clown at a train station and ends up in hell. While “Terrifier 3” never goes to hell or takes place in hell, it definitely leaves an opening for a fourth movie that would have to take place in hell. One could wish things were explained better in this film, though.
While watching “The 9th Circle” is not necessary in order to watch the first two movies, in order to understand the ending of “Terrifier 3” it is helpful. Otherwise, the ending is going to be very confusing, weird and random. It is easier to understand after watching the world where Art the Clown got his start.
Things to be cautious of going into this film are these movies are not for the faint of heart. If you could handle “Terrifier 2,” then you should be able to handle “Terrifier 3.” However, a lot of people were concerned about certain scenes in this movie, one of which involved the death of a child. There are other elements as well that may cause one to steer clear of the film.
Overall, the movie succeeds at being a great horror flick. While it is hard to enjoy due to the extreme nature, it does make you squirm and find yourself uncomfortable. Every movie in this franchise is successful at that, but this installment has done that and more.
