Night Market celebrates Hispanic heritage at Scissortail Park

On Friday Oct. 4, Scissortail Park hosted the Scissortail Night Market in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City. The market started at 5:30 p.m. and ended at 10 p.m. From the time it began to the time it closed, Scissortail Park saw an array of visitors that came to visit and enjoy local vendors, live music and a variety of food.

The market was centered on celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, paying homage to the culture with live music, art and folklórico dances.

“I loved getting to celebrate my culture with my loved ones and the people of OKC. Scissortail Park did a fantastic job at making everyone feel included,” said Maria Sanchez.

There were over 50 vendors to visit and support. Each vendor had a unique product. The market had everything from clothing and boots to pottery and plants.

One vendor highlighted its Maria Victoria bags. These handbags and totes were handmade by fair trade artisans in Mexico out of recycled plastic, such as polyvinyl chloride pipe, and were a hit at the market.

Another highlight of the night was Tamale King. They served fresh handcrafted tamales and drew long lines of visitors all night long.

The market also included Scissortail Park’s new Kids’ Studio Under the Stars. This studio gave kids a chance to express their creativity through crafts and storytelling.
