Broncho basketball showcases new talent at scrimmage
The UCO men’s basketball team made their public debut for this season Sunday in a team scrimmage at Hamilton Field House.
“We’re excited to get started and thankful for the fans that came out to see us today,” Head Coach Bob Hoffman told UCO Athletics. “It was competitive, which makes me think we’ve got a pretty good squad. We’re looking forward to getting started in two weeks and we hope everyone will come out and support the guys.”
This will be Hoffman’s sixth season at UCO, and the Bronchos have had a 94-52 record since he joined.
Jacobi Sebock led everyone in the scrimmage while playing for the Blue team, scoring 20 points and shooting at 67%. Sebock, a junior from Midwest City, transferred from the Queens University of Charlotte this year.
Sophomore forward Caiden Punt led the Bronze team with 18 points and eight rebounds. 6’ 10” tall senior forward Luke Haasl had 11 points, six rebounds and one block. The Bronchos ended the game with the Blue winning 67-57.
Central was ranked fifth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll and Media Polls after having a 20-11 record last season.
“We’re excited to get the year started,” Hoffman told UCO Athletics. “We have a lot of new kids this season, and the returners we have are ready to have a bigger year this year. Like everyone else, we’ll see what we have when we get started. This league will be tough, just like it always is, but we’re looking forward to getting started.”
They will open the season Nov. 8 and 9 against the University of Mary and Northwestern Oklahoma State at the Hamilton Field House. Friday’s game will start at 7:30 PM and Saturday’s game will start at 4:30 PM.
