7/11 Armed Robbery Under Investigation
Developing story 5:33 p.m.
Edmond police are investigating an armed robbery reported in the parking lot of the 7/11 on University and Ayers across from the University of Central Oklahoma’s University Commons.
A phone was reported stolen at gunpoint to the UCO Police Department at approximately 2:20, according to Jennifer Wagnon, Edmond Police Department’s public information specialist.
The man who was robbed said his cellphone was stolen at gunpoint after the suspect got into his car with him, according to Wagnon.
Wagnon said that the man who was robbed confirmed that he knows the suspect. Edmond police have no suspect in custody at this time, but said they are not treating the investigation as a random armed robbery.
According to UCO’s Central Alert system, the suspect was last seen heading north in a burgundy Chevrolet Malibu. Edmond police report that the suspect is a black male who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.
The Vista reached out to UCO Police, but they declined to comment.
As Edmond police are currently handling the situation, no report will be filed with the UCOPD, according to Adrienne Nobles, UCO assistant vice president for University Communications.
Nobles said that UCO had released the information on their Central Alert system as part of their timely warning policy of alerting the UCO campus to nearby incidents.
