Women’s Volleyball Remain Undefeated, Going 4-0 in Crossover Tournament
The University Of Central Oklahoma hosted the 2025 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA)/Great American Conference (GAC) Crossover at Hamilton Field House this past weekend.
This was a busy eight match weekend for volleyball fans as teams from across the region came to Edmond. UCO welcomed a strong slate of opponents, including MIAA members Emporia State and Fort Hays State. The GAC brought in East Central University, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Southern Nazarene University, and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The No. 2 ranked Bronchos entered the weekend with a perfect 10-0 record and this tournament was no different. Central Oklahoma completed a four-match run to improve their record 14-0, with 12 of those matches being sweeps.
UCO began their tournament opener Thursday beating Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1. This would be only the second time this season a team has won a set against the Bronchos. Central Oklahoma ended this match 25-21, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-23.
Games 2, 3 and 4 all resulted in perfect 3-0 sweeps for UCO. The Bronchos won match two against East Central University 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17. In match three, UCO faced Northwestern Oklahoma State, winning 25-11, 25-12 and 25-19. In the fourth and final match of the MIAA/GAC Crossover, Central Oklahoma defeated Southern Nazarene University 25-17, 25-14 and 25-19.
“This weekend we wrapped up our pre-season with momentum and confidence. We were able to come out with four wins in front of our home crowd, which felt amazing. The atmosphere and energy was something we have never experienced before. Our first couple matches were a little shaky but I believe we just had to find a rhythm. After that, we settled in and dominated the tournament. There’s always room to grow and that’s the exciting part. For us, the best thing that will help us this season is staying consistent and injury free. I’m looking forward to the competition we will see this week because that is the only way to see if we have grown,” said junior setter Riley Roberts.
“Our tough serving and relentless grit allowed us to dominate whoever we were playing. Those things are what we must excel at when we get into conference play. We must improve on our consistent energy. We have highs and lows, but we must learn to stay level headed through the whole game,” stated senior setter Lindsey Houran.
Central Oklahoma will have their MIAA opener this weekend with back-to-back road trips to Newman on Friday and Pittsburg State on Saturday.
