UCO Women’s Hoops Battles Newman Jetts
Central Oklahoma pulled away late to defeat Newman 67-51 in a conference clash Wednesday night, snapping a four-game skid and extending its dominance over the Jets.
With the victory, the Bronchos improve to 8-12 on the season and sit at 3-8 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) play.
UCO showed early struggles, shooting 15 percent in the first quarter. Newman led 12-6 after the opening frame as the Jets held the Bronchos to 2-of-16 shooting.
A tight first half left UCO ahead 23-20 at halftime, despite Newman taking a 16-14 edge in the second quarter.
The second half belonged to Central Oklahoma, which surged to outscore Newman and pull away. The Bronchos finished the night strong, improving their shooting in the third (7-of-19) and fourth (7-of-15) frames to seal the win.
Bobbie Fouquet led the offense for Central with 16 points, shooting 5-for-13 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from distance, and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
Jerney Bennett, Kaitlyn McCarn, and Nykaiya Dillard each contributed nine points. Bennett also tallied a game-high 11 rebounds and three blocks. McCarn added seven rebounds and two assists. Dillard chipped in two boards, two assists, and a steal.
Hania Geretta contributed seven points off the bench, with Kendrick Bailey adding six points. Olivia Quapaw had four, Madison Roberts had three, and Talia Pogi, along with Harley Har, provided additional depth contributions.
Central Oklahoma travels to face Emporia State on Saturday, with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.
