The University of Central Oklahoma women’s golf team finished 10th in their season opener at Oakmont Country Club in the Dallas Baptist University Classic on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bronchos shot consistent back-to-back 298s in both rounds of the tournament, finishing with a total score of 596. This brought their team’s total to 20-over-par. The host and reigning National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II champions, DBU, won the tournament with a final score of 566. Three of DBU’s players placed in the top 10 individually.

UCO women’s golf head coach Michael Bond talked about the competition, “We know the DBU field is strong every year with over a dozen top 25 teams. It was good to get the season started. I’m proud of this group, and moving forward, hopefully we can learn and grow from this event.”

Freshman Grace Hall led UCO, finishing in 10th place individually. Hall opened her college debut, shooting a 1-under-par score of 71 in her first round on Monday. She finished off her second round with a 1-over-par, resulting in a 73 on Tuesday, bringing her total score to an even-par 144. Hall says that she is excited that she was a top finisher,  “This motivates me because I know I have potential and I will continue to work hard to keep on playing good golf.”

Bond says they are already preparing for their next tournament, “We are looking forward to hosting the Grace Shin Invite at Golf Club of Edmond, where we will have 19 teams competing. I know if we collectively play the way we know we are capable of, we can compete with anyone in the field. We will be out there all next week getting reps on the course to prepare for the event.”

Central Oklahoma will be back in action Oct. 6-7, when they host their annual Grace Shin Invite at the Golf Club of Edmond.
