The UCO Diversity Round Table Organization Offers Community for Students
At the University of Central Oklahoma, the Diversity Round Table (DRT) is a collection of student groups that celebrate culture, identity, and advocacy.
The goal of DRT is to create a campus environment where students can find belonging, express creativity, and connect with others who share their experiences. For many, joining an affinity group means building friendships while also learning how to advocate for broader cultural understanding.
The seven groups include:
- Asian American Student Association (AASA),
- American Association of University Women (AAUW)
- Black Student Union (BSA)
- Hispanic American Student Association (HASA)
- Native American Student Association (NASA)
- Student Alliance for Equality (SAFE)
- The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
Cheyenne McClellan is a part of the NAACP unit 6823 at UCO and is one of the marketing directors on the executive board.
“NAACP advocates for everyone. Regardless of race, religion, gender, etc. We serve our community, and we’re there for our community in a world of injustice.”
For new students, these organizations can make their college experience much easier by having a sense of belonging.
McClellan continued, “Whenever I attended these events, I was always welcomed with open arms by people who didn’t quite know me, but always made me feel comfortable, especially with me being in a new environment.”
That sense of welcoming reflects DRT’s larger mission by uniting students across different organizations. They foster collaboration, celebration of diverse identities, and create leadership opportunities.
”Now that I am on the executive board, I work towards finding people who need a community here on campus, or even just finding students who want to get involved.” McClellan stated.
