Sigma Nu Raises $1,600 in First ‘Snake Week’ Philanthropy Events
The Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Central Oklahoma hosted its first philanthropy week, “Snake Week”, raising $1,600 through four events and a giveback day to support charitable causes, according to Trevor Morris.
Of the total, $1,500 will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Sigma Nu’s national philanthropy. The remaining $100 will be donated to Alpha Gamma Delta’s Fighting Hunger initiative, recognizing the sorority’s collaboration in hosting the Chili Cook-Off.
Snake weeks events consisted of “Balloon-a-snu”, “Karaoke for a Cause”, a volleyball tournament, a giveback day at The Edge Nutrition, and the “Sigma Nu X Alpha Gam Chili Cook off.”

Senior Trevor Morris, a double major in engineering and physics with a minor in math, serves as Sigma Nu’s philanthropy chairman. He said his involvement in planning last year’s Chili Cook-Off inspired him to expand the effort into a full week of events.
“I found passion in philanthropy when I stepped up last year and created the Chili Cook-Off for Sigma Nu, where we raised $550,” Morris said.
“From there, I knew I wanted to make more of an effort and show dedication to a whole week of events. Now we had a huge success, tripling what we raised last year. I hope Sigma Nu keeps up the passion after I graduate because giving back to nonprofits like St. Jude is one of the best ways we can serve our community.”
Sigma Nu member Jake Eads said Snake Week demonstrated the chapter’s unity and purpose.
“Being part of Snake Week has shown me the impact a group of dedicated brothers can make,” Eads said. “Supporting St. Jude isn’t just about fundraising – it’s about bringing hope to families who need it most.”
Morris said the fraternity hopes to make Snake Week an annual tradition to continue supporting St. Jude and local charitable initiatives.
