Pro-Life Leader Kristan Hawkins Will Visit UCO to Discuss Why “Abortion Is Oppression”
The University of Central Oklahoma’s Students for Life club invites Kristan Hawkins, leader of Students for Life of America, to speak at UCO’s Nigh University Center on November 11 to inform students on issues relating to abortion.
Hawkins founded Students for Life in 2006 and has spent the last two decades reaching 1,700+ campuses in all 50 states, according to studentsforlife.org.
Through Hawkins’s leadership, Students for Life of America has become the largest pro-life youth organization in the entire world, the website says.
On June 24, 2022, Hawkins announced Roe had been overturned on the steps of the Supreme Court. The topic of her upcoming speech at UCO will be “Abortion is Oppression.”
UCO’s Students for Life was founded over a year ago by President Alice Hobbs, a Senior at the university.
“As UCO’s Students for Life, we stand for moms and babies in the Edmond area, bringing them support, resources, to let them know that life is an option,” said Hobbs.
“It is always possible to choose life.”
Since its formation, UCO SFL has chalked pro-life messages on the sidewalks of campus, hosted guest speakers who taught on policy and pregnancy resources, and they have volunteered with Edmond’s Hope Pregnancy Center, a nonprofit organization supporting new mothers.
Future campus events include a movie screening about adoption, and meeting legislators at the Oklahoma Capitol, such as Denise Crosswhite Hader and James Lankford, Hobbs said.
