Mike Gundy’s Reign at OSU Has Ended
Earlier this afternoon it was announced that Oklahoma State University and head coach Mike Gundy have agreed to part ways after 20 full seasons together.

News has spread fast and Gundy has officially been bought out of his contract for $5 million. Coach Gundy started coaching for OSU in 2005 and was in his 21st season with the Cowboys. Gundy’s exit comes four days after Oklahoma State fell to Tulsa University in a 19-12 loss. “I’m under contract here for three and a half years. When I was hired here to take this job, ever since that day, I’ve put my heart and soul into this. I will continue to do that until at some point if I say I don’t want to do it, or if somebody else says we don’t want you to do it,” said Mike Gundy in a press conference held after the game Monday morning.
Coach Gundy’s all time coaching record at OSU was 170-90 from 2005-2025. Being there for two decades, Gundy has made his mark in the town of Stillwater by bringing the mullet into fashion, claiming it as the ‘’Real Pokey’’ look. Gundy has built the culture of OSU by using the acronym ‘’EAT’’ which stands for Effort, Attitude and Toughness. It is something they have carried for two decades now on and off the field.
Gundy played quarterback for OSU in the late 80’s and led the team to two 10+ win seasons and two bowl wins. He is one of the most successful coaches in school history.
“Coach Gundy has done a great job at surrounding his players with great coaches such as Doug Meacham, the offensive coordinator. He was hired in December 2024 and previously served as an offensive analyst at TCU. The defensive coordinator, coach Todd Grantham was also hired in 2024. Grantham worked as a defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, so it’s not like we were not surrounded by greatness and wisdom. We just couldn’t put things together at times,” said former player Talon Kendrick.
It is no question that Coach Gundy, known as “Mr. Cowboy” in the city of Stillwater, has made an impact on OSU players and fans through the years. Now that 20 season reign has come to an end.
OSU is now looking for a new head coach. Rumoured potential replacements include University of Oklahoma offensive coordinator. Ben Arbuckle and former OSU quarterback Zac Robinson.
