Men’s Golf Finish Second in Final Tournament of their Fall Season

The University of Central Oklahoma men’s golf team finished second at the final tournament of their fall season, the DBU Classic, this past Tuesday, held at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club in Rockwall, Texas.

The Bronchos shot a final score of 863, with rounds of 285 and 284 on Monday and a 294 on Tuesday, finishing at one-under-par for the tournament. St. Mary’s claimed the title with a final score of 855, nine-under-par, after rounds of 285, 284, and 286. The host of the tournament, Dallas Baptist University, finished third with a total score of 866 through all three rounds.

After opening the event with back-to-back under-par rounds, UCO posted a 294 (+6) in the final round, their highest team score of the season, which ultimately left them just short of the top spot.

Baylor Bostick led the Bronchos with a two-under-par 214, earning a sixth-place finish on the individual leaderboard. He shot rounds of 72 and 71 on Monday and closed with another 71 on Tuesday. Bostick wrapped up the fall season with a 70.3 scoring average, one tournament win and two top-three finishes. The Junior ranks second in the regional standings and 22nd nationally.

Nicholas Canales followed closely behind, finishing tenth on the leaderboard at one-over-par 217. He recorded rounds of 73, 72, and 72 over the two days of play. Canales holds a 70.2 scoring average for the season, with one win and two top-three finishes, ranking third in the region and 26th nationally.

Tied with Canales was Bryant Polhill, who posted rounds of 68, 73, and 76 for a total of 217 (+1). Polhill owns a 70.6 scoring average, with one top-three finish, and is ranked fourth regionally and 32nd nationally.

Rhett Hughes and Karsten Paciotti tied for 19th place at four-over-par 220. Hughes posted rounds of 72, 73, and 75. He finished the fall season with a 71.4 scoring average, ranking 10th regionally and 80th nationally. Paciotti recorded scores of 76, 68, and 76, holding a 71.5 scoring average, standing 11th in the region and 87th nationally.

The Bronchos also had Brock Jerman competing as an individual. He posted rounds of 87, 79, and 75 for the tournament. Jerman holds a 73.5 scoring average and is ranked 55th regionally and 375th nationally.

UCO closed out the fall season with a team scoring average of 281.0, collecting three tournament wins and five top-three finishes. The Bronchos are currently ranked first in the region and third nationally. They captured three titles and finished runner-up in the other two tournaments, losing both times to St. Mary’s. The team will now take a break before returning to competition in the spring.
