Students Encouraged to Bundle Up as Cold Front Moves In for Weekend
Students can expect one last comfortable weekend before a major cooldown sweeps across Oklahoma. This week was sunny skies and highs in the 70s, but a strong Canadian cold front arrived Saturday afternoon.
Friday brought one more taste of fall sunshine, with highs climbing back into the 70s across much of the state.
Broncho fans experienced a mild afternoon for Saturday’s Senior Night football game before a strong cold front brought a sharp temperature drop later in the weekend. Temperatures during the 1 p.m. kickoff against Missouri Southern sat in the mid-60s, perfect football weather, but the cold air arrived shortly after the game wrapped up.
Sunday will bring the first real taste of winter, with highs only reaching the 40s and wind chills in the 30s. Monday morning looks even colder, with temperatures plunging into the 20s and wind chills in the teens. Meteorologists are warning of a hard freeze and thick frost that could mark the end of the growing season statewide.
Students heading to class Monday morning are encouraged to dress warmly and stay weather aware as the front passes through. Layering clothing, bringing blankets to the stands, and packing gloves or hats will help students stay comfortable during the sharp temperature drop.

The good news? After the cold blast, temperatures are expected to gradually rebound next week, with highs eventually returning to the 70s. The forecast also looks dry heading into mid-November, with little chance of rain in sight.
