Women’s Soccer Won Two Conference Games Over the Weekend
The University of Central Oklahoma women’s soccer team won two conference games on the road this past weekend against Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney.

The Bronchos started their weekend trip Friday evening at FHSU Stadium with a 2-0 win against Fort Hays State in Hays, Kansas. UCO took the lead at the 18th minute of the game, when a goal was scored by forward Caleah Carter and assisted by midfielder Rebekah George. The second goal was completed in the 31st minute by midfielder Jordan Tanges and assisted by Carter.
“Our sophomore class really stepped up for us in that game. They’ve been hungry for goals the past few games and it finally went in their favor last night,” said midfielder Adria Ramirez.
Ramirez discussed how the first goal of the game set the tone of the whole game. “Scoring the first goal in the first half definitely gave us the momentum we needed. That made everything slowly fall into place for us the rest of the game.”
The Bronchos had a quick break Saturday before traveling to Nebraska Sunday afternoon where they won 3-0 at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field against Nebraska Kearney. The first goal was scored in the 21st minute by midfielder Jane Lockhart and assisted by George. Forward Rebecca Tweedy scored the second goal of the game at the 40th minute mark with the help of midfielder Kaitlyn Cotton. Central Oklahoma scored the third and final goal of the game at the 60th minute mark when Lockhart scored off a free kick.
UCO had led a total of 20 shots on goal from 90 minutes of the game, while Nebraska Kearney only had 8.
Goal keeper Avery Bass talked about the importance of scoring early. “Our coaches just gave us a good plan of coming out as aggressive as we could be and trying to score early. It also helped that we scored early to take some pressure off the defense.”
UCO’s current record in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) is 2-2-2 and they are currently ranked 7th in the MIAA standings.
“We need to keep this streak going if we want to have a post season. We were successful last season and we want to keep that same success going, so we are definitely still staying hungry for more goals and more wins,” said Ramirez.
The Bronchos will be back at home this weekend. Their next game will be this Friday at 7 p.m. against No. 9 ranked Central Missouri at Tom Thompson Field in Edmond.
