Safety First: UCO Issues 2025 Campus Security Report

The University of Central Oklahoma has released its 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, providing students, faculty, staff, and prospective Bronchos with a detailed look at campus safety programs, crime statistics, and fire safety data.

The report, prepared in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1990, outlines UCO’s ongoing commitment to maintaining one of the safest university environments in the country.

President Todd G. Lamb emphasized the importance of safety in his message to the campus community.

“Providing a safe and secure environment for our campus community in which to work and learn is a top priority for the University of Central Oklahoma,” Lamb wrote.

“This report reflects Central’s dedication to being a safe learning and living environment for our students, employees, and visitors.”

The 2025 report includes incident statistics from calendar years 2022, 2023, and 2024, along with details about campus police operations, fire safety, emergency procedures, and crime-prevention programs.

It also contains information about university policies on topics such as missing person procedures, sexual misconduct, drug and alcohol use, and safety resources available to victims of crime.

Among highlights, the report details the use of UCO’s Safety App, which allows community members to contact police, submit tips, or set a “safety timer.” The university also continues its SafeWalk escort program, providing 24/7 assistance for anyone walking on campus, and maintains partnerships with city and state law enforcement agencies.

UCO Police Chief Julius Adkins and Emergency Management Director Michael DeRemer oversee the university’s emergency response programs, which include the Central Alert system that sends emergency notifications through phone, email, and text.

The report also documents UCO’s fire safety activities. In 2024, two minor electrical fires were reported on campus with no injuries or significant property damage. Annual fire drills and inspections continue in all residential facilities, and emergency evacuation procedures are regularly tested.

Students and employees are encouraged to read the report to stay informed about safety procedures and available resources. The full 2025 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available for download in PDF format on the UCO Department of Public Safety’s Public Reporting webpage and the Campus Safety and Security Reporting Policy page.

Paper copies can be obtained at the Human Resources Office, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Police Services Building.
