The Bronchos were previously ranked No. 2 behind the defending champions, Lynn University. The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released this week’s polls earlier today, showing that Central Oklahoma has now taken the No. 1 spot.

Head coach Edgar Miraku said, “This is such a huge thing not only for our volleyball program but our athletic program as a whole. This is the first time in UCO history that we have been in the #1 spot. It is not only due to our current players, but also our past players as well, who have taught others the culture and helped lay the foundation to get to where we are today.”

Miraku says that he thinks the most important thing right now is to be humble and stay hungry. “All of this is part of the process and we still have a long season until we get to reap the results.’’

UCO has managed to dominate this season as they remain undefeated in a perfect 16-0 season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Bronchos have plenty of season left with 14 more conference games until they play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) tournament.

They host the Missouri Southern Lions from Joplin, Missouri this Thursday at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.
