On Sept. 22, a small crowd of students gathered around three Christian men who came to the University of Central Oklahoma to share their political and religious beliefs with UCO students.

Steven Plumlee, a member of the three men, shared that, “We are out here on our own accord, we are not really with any group, we all go to different churches.”

“We are here to call people to stop doing what you know is wrong and start doing what you know is right,” Plumlee continued.

Bystanders reported that the three discussed a variety of topics, including LGBTQ+ topics, single mothers, and gang violence.

As students argued back in forth with the three, UCO student, Cori Hart, had this to say, “I was walking out of my health class and heard bigoted screaming, so I came over and wanted to know what this was about.”

“I have only seen this on the internet and never in person,” Hart said.

These three were slightly different in their approach with students than other Christian influencers like Sister Cindy and Brother Matt, who have gained popularity in recent years by showing up to college campuses and preaching to students, but not engaging in conversation.

Steven Plumlee, Angel Diaz, and Sebastian Bryan attempted to engage in conversation with students, which quickly turned into a heated debate, garnering police presence.

Plumlee said the ultimate goal of the three was for “young people to not make bad decisions, make good decisions, treat people how you want to be treated, and it would make the world a better place.”

Hart said in regards to the three that “This man is talking about respect, yet he’s yelling at all these people, telling them that life is black and white, when it’s not like that with Christianity.”

As the day has gone on, the crowd and police who were there to “make sure students are safe” have dispersed, and the three men remain talking to any student who approaches them.
