The UCO Vaccine Clinc is Worth a Shot
The University of Central Oklahoma will host an on-campus vaccine clinic on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 to provide students, faculty, and staff with convenient access to influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations. The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days at the UCO Wellness Center.
Seasonal flu vaccines, including both regular and high-dose options, will be available, along with COVID-19 vaccines for those who meet current eligibility guidelines. Participants are encouraged to bring their health insurance card, as most insurance providers will cover the cost of vaccination. For those without insurance, a limited number of free flu shots will be available. COVID-19 vaccines, however, will only be administered to those with insurance coverage.
Appointments can be scheduled using the Passport Health registration link. For questions regarding the vaccine or appointment, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to contact Passport Health at Accounts@passporthealthusa.com.
Health officials emphasize that fall is a critical time to get vaccinated, as cooler weather often coincides with an increase in respiratory illnesses, including both influenza and COVID-19. By offering the clinic on campus, UCO hopes to make it easier for members of the Broncho community to protect themselves and others before illness rates begin to rise.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccination remains the most effective tool for reducing the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death caused by respiratory viruses. The CDC also notes that the combination of COVID-19 and influenza continues to place a strain on healthcare systems, especially during peak flu season. Public health experts recommend receiving the vaccines early in the season to maximize protection throughout the fall and winter months.
