10 Places Worth Visiting Over Spring Break in Edmond

Spring break is around the corner for college students everywhere. With spring break comes vacation plans, get-togethers with friends, and local travel. 

The Edmond Arcadia area houses numerous attractions, from nature to museums. The Tourist Checklist has a whole list of recommendations for spring break. 

Here are 10 attractions in Edmond and Arcadia that offer a plethora of opportunities during spring break. 

Arcadia Lake 

According to the Tourist Checklist, Arcadia Lake is one of Edmond’s most notorious attractions. Arcadia Lake is an artificial reservoir located in the Deep Fork River. Arcadia Lake contains hiking trails, campgrounds, and disc golf courses for everyone. In addition to the attractions, Arcadia Lake has a heated and covered dock with a fishing pier. The dock is open to anglers all year round. 

Edmond Historical Society & Museum 

The Edmond Historical Society & Museum is housed inside a sandstone building dating back to 1936. Before the building was a museum, it was used as an armory. Each display in the museum is arranged in chronological order. The exhibits begin when Edmond was first founded back in 1886, when the city was just a train stop. The museum has activities for children and adults alike, ranging from the research library to the Children’s Learning Center. 

UCO Jazz Lab 

The University of Central Oklahoma’s Jazz Lab was first established in 2002. The Jazz Lab showcases live music with a New Orleans atmosphere. Features of the Jazz Lab include faculty offices, practice rooms, and a box office, among many others. The Jazz Lab also offers food and beverages courtesy of Hideaway Pizza. On top of that, countless publications have voted the Jazz Lab as Oklahoma’s top live entertainment venue. 

Mitch Park 

Mitch Park offers recreation and relaxation for families in the Edmond area. Mitch Park covers 280 acres in Edmond. Spectacles include two playgrounds, a skate park, a theater, and two basketball courts. There is a YMCA location towards the center of the park. The athletic complex has four baseball and five softball fields. Mitch Park is the ideal venue for athletic events during spring break. 

1889 Territorial Schoolhouse 

This schoolhouse is the oldest school building in all of Oklahoma County. The school was built after the Land Run of 1889. In 2007, the school underwent a renovation sponsored by the Oklahoma Centennial Project. Four protestant churches set up their services inside the old schoolhouse. The schoolhouse was also the venue for the first wedding in the county. Countless Edmond artifacts are housed within the old schoolhouse. 

Unpluggits Playstudio 

Unpluggits Playstudio is a ceramics studio that covers over 3,000 square feet. The studio offers an abundance of services to children and adults alike. Services include paint-your-own-ceramics, playdough sculpting, and a two-story indoor playground for children. Unpluggits also offers take-home craft kits for people to get creative at home. The studio has a room that anyone can book for private parties and events. Unpluggits offers a space for people in the community to express creativity. 

Armstrong Auditorium 

Armstrong Auditorium showcases world-class music, dance, and plays on the Herbert W. Armstrong campus in Edmond. The lobby is a spectacle that is always pleasing to the eye. The auditorium lobby features French candelabras and Austrian chandeliers. Armstrong Auditorium also houses one of the top-ranked acoustics in the United States. The auditorium has both orchestra and balcony seating for attendees. 

Showbiz Cinema 

Showbiz Cinema is far from a normal cinema, as the venue features 10 theaters. On top of that, each theater has 70-foot screens and recliners for moviegoers. Aside from movies, Showbiz has a bowling alley and arcade with over 40 games. The bowling alley contains a food and drink menu for refreshments. The bowling alley stays open until two a.m. on the weekends for late-night activities. 

Hideaway Pizza 

Hideaway Pizza is a chain with numerous locations across Oklahoma. Hideaway offers a wide variety of specialty pizzas to select from. People are also encouraged to build their own pizza with the option of many toppings and sauces. There’s also a selection of crusts, including cauliflower and a 10-inch gluten-free crust. Alternatives to pizza include baked pasta served with garlic rolls and Italian-style sandwiches.
