DEMOCRATS: Party of the People?
When I ask students around campus, what does the Democratic Party represent to them? A lot of those who are in favor of the Democratic Party say that the Democratic Party is for the people, human rights, and anti-war.
Did you know that Abraham Lincoln, who was a Republican sign the Emancipation Proclamation ending slavery in the United States? Even during the later part of the Civil War when President Lincoln changed from the Republican Party to the National Union Party he was still a Republican because the National Union Party is what the Republican Party called itself for the 1864 elections.
Lyndon B. Johnson was a well documented racist democrat said “These Negroes, they’re getting pretty uppity these days and that’s a problem for us since they’ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we’ve got to do something about this, we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.”
Republicans love war? Republican President Abraham Lincoln went to war with the south in order to preserve the Union. The southern states were wanting to break from the union because President Lincoln wanted to end slavery but more importantly he wanted to maintain the union.
Woodrow Wilson was the Democratic president of the United States who deployed American troops to fight and die in World War I.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was the Democratic President of the United States who deployed American troops to fight and die in World War II.
Harry S. Truman was the Democratic President of the United States who made the decision to enter the Korean War.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the Republican President of the United States who sent troops to Vietnam as advisors to.
John F. Kennedy, A Democratic President who did not bring troops home from Vietnam.
Lyndon B. Johnson, A Democratic President who did not bring troops home from Vietnam.
Richard M. Nixon, A Republican President, who I will admit was impeached, did bring the troops home from Vietnam.
George H.W. Bush, A Republican did send our troops to the First Gulf War. He made sure that there was a clear plan and when that plan was completed the troops came home.
George W. Bush, A Republican did send troops to Iraq and Afghanistan and did not do a very good job when it comes to the war.
Democrats are for the poor but only two out of the top ten richest people in congress are Republicans. There are eight Democrats that are on the list of the top ten richest members of Congress.
